Land Rover has launched the Range Rover Sport SVR in India that takes only 4.7 seconds to reach 100 km/hr from standstill. Like other Range Rover models, this too comes via the CBU route.
After having launched the humble yet practical Discovery Sport in India, Land Rover has now launched the performance oriented Range Rover Sport SVR in the country, which is priced at Rs. 2.12 crores (ex-showroom). It is the fastest production SUV around the Nurburgring circuit having a lap record of just 8 minutes and 14 seconds. It is the first car tuned by the company’s ‘Special Vehicle Operations’ division and also the first Land Rover to get the ‘SVR’ badge.
SVR is to Land Rover what ///M and AMG are to BMW and Mercedes respectively. The Range Rover Sport’s chassis has been specifically re-engineered to handle the extra horses and offer sports car like dynamics. Visually it looks a lot more aggressive with the sporty elements including all-black grille and the black badging on the hood. The front air dams are huge in size, finished in black along with a new diffuser at the back having quad pipes.
The roof also gets black contrast and the shiny 21-inch alloy wheels along with the SVR badges all around tell you that it’s a special vehicle indeed. The Range Rover Sport SVR gets a white and black theme on the inside, which is of course customisable. It also gets sports seats to hold you tight while you push the mammoth around the corners hard. The high-tech gadgetry and convenience features are carried forward to the SVR variant as well so that you get the best balance of both worlds.
Powering the Range Rover Sport SVR is a 5.0-litre supercharged V8 petrol engine that belts out an insane 550 PS of power with 680 Nm of torque, paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The healthy performance figures helps the Range Rover sprint from 0-100 km/hr in 4.7 seconds, having a top speed of 260 km/hr. It also gets an Active Sports Exhaust that churns out satisfying crackling and burbling sounds. The SUV is a capable off-road machine too, having 850 mm of wading depth and 213 mm of ground clearance. The Range Rover Sport SVR competes with the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S and Mercedes-AMG GLE63 (formally ML63 AMG) in India.
