While the Mercedes GLE is being launched in India on 14th October, the automaker is also looking to launch its performance-oriented version, the GLE 450 AMG Sport Coupe in the country.
Mercedes-Benz is all set to launch the GLE SUV in India on 14th October. The vehicle will be the replacement for the current ML-Class and it will be competing with the likes of the BMW X3, Audi Q5, Volvo XC60 and Land Rover Discovery Sport. The GLE also has an AMG version called the GLE 450 AMG Sport Coupe and since Mercedes has been on a product offensive in India when it comes to launching AMG cars, the automaker will be launching the GLE 450 AMG too.
The German carmaker has now imported a GLE 450 AMG from the United States to India and the vehicle has come here for homologation and testing purposes. The GLE is a looker and its AMG version only increases its appeal by a huge margin. The exteriors of the GLE 450 AMG get the usual sporty bits like redesigned bumpers, bonnet, etc. while the same sporty theme gets carried to the interiors too. The GLE gets the COMAND system with a new pop-up screen.
Powering the Mercedes GLE 450 AMG Sport Coupe is a 3.0-litre V6 bi-turbo engine that produces 367 PS of power and 520 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 9-speed automatic gearbox and power is sent to all four wheels. Apart from this, Mercedes also has a GLE63 AMG in its kitty and this model has much more power than the 450 AMG. While the GLE 450 AMG Sport Coupe will be launched in the near future, the GLE63 AMG too has a possibility of being introduced in the Indian market.
The Mercedes GLE 450 AMG has been imported to India at a cost of Rs. 20 lakhs which means that the company will price it at approximately Rs. 1.15 crore (ex-showroom) when launched here, accounting for the import duties, taxes and company and dealer profits. Rivals of Mercedes-Benz do not have any sports SUV at this price point in India which means that the GLE AMG Coupe will be a good choice for people who want an AMG but also want the practicality of the high ground clearance.
