The new generation S-Class based Maybach forms Mercedes’ new flagship luxury saloon in the country and offers an entirely new and ultra-luxurious experience for its occupants.
After a silent global exit in 2013, the Maybach moniker is making a grand comeback to the Indian market in the form of the new generation Mercedes-Maybach, offered in two versions – S500 and S600. The arrival of the Mercedes-Maybach marks the automaker’s 12th launch in the country as part of their 15 models planned for the year and takes the luxury levels on the new S-Class to a whole standard. Unlike the previous Maybachs that were independently sold by the Daimler group, the resurrected brand carries the star logo, but ensures to keep the luxury levels a notch above the already extravagant S-Class.
Icons in their own might, the Mercedes-Maybach S500 and S600 are visually similar to the standard S-Class, unlike the previous generation Maybach models. That said, the four-door saloons are 207 mm longer than the S-Class opening up more legroom especially at the rear seats. Both the variants come with an extensively long list of features including Magic Body Control, panoramic sliding roof, power-operated sunblinds, heated windshield, HUD unit, LED intelligent lighting system, Burmester 3D Surround Sound System, executive rear seat Package and a pair of hand-crafted silver-plated champagne flutes.

Then you have the electronic aids including the Pre-Safe Braking with Pedestrian Recognition, Distronic Plus with Steering Assist, Lane Keeping Assist and a lot more.
Under the hood, the Mercedes-Maybach S600 draws power from a 6.0-litre V12 engine tuned to produce 523 HP between 4900-5300 RPM and a whopping 830 Nm of torque between 1900-4000 RPM, paired to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The S500 on the other hand comes with a 4.7-litre bi-turbo V8 engine which produces 455 BHP of power and 700 Nm of torque. Despite the additional length and features list, the top-of-the-line luxury saloons do not disappoint on performance with the S600 doing the 0-100 km/hr run in 5 seconds and the S500 taking just a little more.
Brining Mercedes back in the game, the new S600 rivals the Bentley Continental Flying Spur, Aston Martin Rapide, Rolls-Royce Ghost and the likes in the segment while the S500 gives the owners of current Mercedes S-Class an option of an upgrade. Priced at a very reasonable premium over the normal S-Class variants, the Maybach S500 is a great options for someone who wants that extra bit of luxury without spending a bomb for it. The fact that Mercedes-Benz has decided to assemble it locally is also commendable and is a reason for an excellent price tag.
