Upcoming compact SUV, the Mahindra TUV300 uses a heavily tweaked version of the Quanto’s engine but comes with a first-in-segment AMT transmission. Bookings for the TUV300 are now open for Rs. 20,000/-.
The Mahindra TUV300 is one of the most awaited launches happening this year. The compact SUV by the desi automaker will be launched on 10th September 2015 and now some more details of the vehicle have been revealed. Last week we reported about details of various trims that will be on offer along with their equipment list. Now, it has been confirmed that the vehicle will be made available with a 5-speed AMT gearbox along with a conventional 5-speed manual gearbox. This particular AMT gearbox has been developed by the engineers at Mahindra in-house and it is a low-cost alternative to conventional auto boxes.
The Mahindra TUV300 will be powered by a 1.5-litre mHawk80 diesel engine that is a significantly tweaked version of the same oil-burner that also powers the Quanto. This engine is capable of belting out 80 BHP of power and 230 Nm of torque. The engine comes with a twin-scroll turbocharger. In comparison, the Quanto produces 100 BHP of power and 240 Nm of torque. The TUV300 gets Micro Hybrid technology and also gets an Eco mode like the Tata Zest.
Airbags and ABS will be offered in all variants of this compact SUV (optional on the base trim). Three variants will be on offer with the base variant having only power steering and air-conditioning. The top variant of the Mahindra TUV300 will come with regular goodies like infotainment system, reverse sensors, power windows and alloy wheels.
The Mahindra TUV300 will be offered only in 7-seater seating configurations and no 5-seater variant has been made. The vehicle looks boxy from most angles and the front isn’t to everyone’s taste but we need to drive the vehicle extensively to come up with a proper verdict. The XUV500 is a very good package by Mahindra and who knows the TUV300 might also turn out to be a nice package offering a good VFM proposition. We are expecting the compact SUV to be priced between Rs. 6.8-8.9 lakhs (ex-showroom). Meanwhile checkout the behind the scenes from the vehicle’s ad shoot.
