The production ready Suzuki Baleno has been spied with several colour options. Maruti is expected to launch the premium hatchback with a new name in October this year.
Suzuki has recently revealed the official pictures of the Baleno hatchback (codenamed YRA) ahead of its Frankfurt Motor Show debut on 15th September. Now, the Swift’s elder brother has been spied completely undisguised in its production ready form in India. The upcoming premium hatchback from Maruti Suzuki will be renamed for our market and will also get some India specific changes. The 2016 Suzuki Baleno is a tad longer than four metres in length for the international market but India will get slightly tweaked bumpers for ducking under the sub-4 metre category for tax benefits.
The Suzuki Baleno is based on the iK-2 concept and the curvy styling has been carried over to the production version. There is some resemblance to the Swift when you notice the headlights and the strong shoulder line but all in all it looks fresh and neutral. It looks quite sizeable from the side profile and carries the clean lines towards the rear. These pictures also reveal the colour options to be offered including the vibrant orange and blue along with the subtle silver, grey and black.
Both fully loaded and low-end variants can be seen here. The range topping variants will get simple alloys inspired from the S-Cross along with chrome door handles while the entry-level variants will get wheel caps and body coloured door handles. The premium hatch from Maruti is expected to be loaded with features including touchscreen audio system with navigation, Bluetooth, AUX and USB connectivity, automatic climate control, cruise control, keyless go with push button start/stop, projector headlamps, LED DRLs and much more. The cabin will be spacious having generous legroom at the back.
The Suzuki Baleno will be offered with a 1.0-litre BoosterJet making its debut in India with expected power output of 120 BHP and around 150 Nm of torque. It will also get the 1.2-litre K-Series petrol engine and the tried and tested 1.3-litre MultiJet diesel engine producing 90 BHP and 200 Nm. The 1.3-litre diesel is likely to get the similar SHVS hybrid technology seen on the Ciaz lately for optimum fuel efficiency, which is expected to be claimed in the ballpark of 25 km/l.
As we all know, the new offering will be positioned above the Swift to compete directly against the Hyundai Elite i20 and Volkswagen Polo. The Suzuki Baleno will be sold alongside the S-Cross through Nexa dealerships since it is a premium offering from Maruti Suzuki. Their Gurgaon plant will be manufacturing the new hatchback for the domestic as well as the export markets. The launch is expected to happen in the festive season around October this year.
