Maruti Suzuki will be launching the YBA compact SUV in India by the year end. It was spotted recently in India and the test mule has DRLs integrated in the headlamps.
Having started NEXA dealerships with the launch of its crossover named the S-Cross, Maruti Suzuki will launch a compact SUV by the end of this year to be sold via the new showrooms. Codenamed the YBA with the most likely final name being Vitara Brezza, the vehicle will compete mainly with the Ford EcoSport which itself is likely to get a facelift soon. At first glance, the car looks pretty smart and should get good volumes for the brand. The engine option initially will be the very familiar 1.3-litre DDiS unit found on many cars from the Japanese automaker’s stable.
While the body is a bit boxy, tastefully selected elements uplift the look of the Vitara Brezza. Since buyers in this segment prefer diesel cars, possibility of a petrol engine as an option is next to nil. The SUV will accompany the S-Cross and the upcoming Baleno hatchback in Maruti’s NEXA showrooms. While the Ciaz hybrid which gets the Suzuki Hybrid Vehicle System is launching tomorrow, the new SUV too might get the system too, thereby further boosting the fuel efficiency numbers which are a big selling point in India. The pricing is expected to be very competitive to get a big benefit over competitors.
While it is known that the Vitara Brezza will be feature laden like the recent Maruti Suzuki launches, a test mule wearing DRLs has been spotted recently. The DRLs have been neatly integrated into the headlight cluster which gives it a neat look. A simple design would ensure that it doesn’t look too gaudy either. Expected to be priced between Rs. 6.5-9.5 lakhs, the compact SUV will compete with new launches from Mahindra, Tata Motors, Volkswagen and current vehicles from Hyundai, Renault and Ford.
