Suzuki has filed patent images of the new crossover which is based on the iM-4 concept. The crossover which is set to take on the Fiat Panda globally.
Suzuki is known as a company which loves launching new and if a segment is seeing a bit of growth, the company tries to get into it. There’s a lot of cross shopping that happens due to this as many offerings are in the same price band but as long as the sales stay within the company, they have nothing to worry about. The latest news is that the Japanese brand has filed patent images of its upcoming crossover which will fight it out with the Fiat Panda and others in the segment. It is based on the iM-4 concept which was unveiled a few months ago.
The crossover will be getting high ground clearance along with an option of 4×4 to make it an off-roader for someone who owns just one car. Looking at the size of the vehicle, it looks in line with the dimensions of the Renault Captur and Fiat Panda. What this means is that the iM-4 production model will be targeted towards a niche segment of those wanting an occasional 4×4 which can be used daily and one which is efficient enough. The patent images look very similar to the concept car which is a great thing considering how good the concept vehicle looks.
The Suzuki iM-4 based crossover will be under 3700 mm in length and will share mechanicals with the new Baleno. Engine options are expected to be the 1.0-litre BoosterJet motor and the 1.2-litre DUALJET unit will be available too and the latter will come with micro-hybrid technology to make it more fuel efficient. Reports state that the production of the car will start by the end of 2016 and a launch can be expected around the same time. It will be introduced in India too and will sit above the upcoming Baleno hatchback in the country.
