The 2016 Hyundai Elantra will be making its first public debut later this year and the manufacturer has revealed a rendering of the vehicle, teasing its new design.
Hyundai has revealed a rendering of the 2016 Elantra ahead of its official launch. The sketch show the front quarter angle of the sedan and the vehicle sees a huge change in its overall design. While the current Elantra follows the company’s fluidic styling philosophy, the next generation comes with the Storm Edge theme which looks far better. The present Elantra also has a lot of lines and curves which are soft in nature while the sketch of the new model shows an equal amount of lines, with the difference being that they are quite sharp.
The sixth generation Hyundai Elantra comes with a hexagonal front grille which is large in size and has multiple chrome slats. The headlights have a curvy and elongated design and they come with projectors and uniquely designed LED DRLs. The chrome fog lamp surrounds in the front bumper also have a similar boomerang design. The alloy wheels have a very funky design which also looks quite futuristic. The side profile is pretty much fuss-free and we like it this way. The window sills have a chrome trim at the bottom. All in all, the new Elantra looks very pleasing to the eye and will appeal to customers across different age groups.
The US variant of the Elantra will come powered by a 1.6-litre GDI diesel engine mated to a 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox. This engine produces 175 HP of power and has a claimed fuel efficiency of 18.28 km/l. The DCT transmission is a big step ahead of the conventional transmission that is offered with the current generation model. The sedan will come loaded with features like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay along with an Infinity sound system, 8-inch infotainment system, remote start, front and rear heated seats, Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Automatic Emergency Braking with pedestrian detection. Hyundai is expecting to achieve a 5-star rating in the Small Overlap Crash Test from IIHS.
The 2016 Hyundai Elantra will be launched at the LA Motor Show in November and we can expect an India debut during the 2016 Auto Expo. The Elantra is a popular vehicle in a lot of overseas markets and even in India it is a good choice in the D-segment. Hyundai uses the Elantra to fight it out with rivals like the Toyota Corolla Altis, Chevrolet Cruze, Renault Fluence, Skoda Octavia and Volkswagen Jetta.
