Suzuki is developing a new quarter-litre adventure bike named the G-Strom 250. It is based on the Inazuma which is the company’s entry level sports tourer.
With more and more people getting attracted to take the road less taken, more and more companies are willing to enter the adventure tourer segment. While bikes of this category already exist in segments above 600cc, it is the quarter-litre segment which has untapped demand and would be very popular amongst bikers since it would reduce the entry barrier into the adventure touring scene. While Kawasaki has already announced that it is developing the Versys 250 with underpinnings from the Z250 and styling inspired by the Versys 650 and Versys 1000, word is that Suzuki too is developing a bike in the same segment.
Rumoured to be named the G-Strom 250, the bike will be based on the Inazuma which is Suzuki’s current offering in the sports tourer segment. The styling will be inspired from its elder sibling, the V-Strom which directly rivals the Kawasaki Versys 1000 currently. The G-Strom 250 hasn’t been named the V-Strom 250 since the V in the latter stands for V-Twin engine whereas the G-Strom will get a parallel-twin motor. The Suzuki Inazuma is a very capable bike in itself and very suitable for touring so the new adventure tourer would raise the bar higher by being off-road friendly too.
Power figures are expected to be similar to the Suzuki Inazuma. Expect the 248cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine to produce around 24 BHP of power and 22 Nm of torque. The torque figure however might be a bit different considering the different tuning the G-Strom 250 would get to give it more grunt off the road. Initially, the bike will be sold only in Japan with no immediate plans to sell it in other regions. However, a launch in India sometime down the line can’t be ruled out. If priced well from the word go, it has the potential to be a sales success here.
