Maruti Suzuki has released a small video revealing the name of the upcoming YRA hatchback which will make its world premiere at the Frankfurt Motor Show on 15th September.
Maruti Suzuki’s first attempt at a premium hatchback sitting above the Swift in its range had been codenamed the YRA. Earlier, rumours spread that the hatchback would be named Fronx which confused a lot of people as it didn’t make much sense. However, finally the name of the car has been disclosed by the Japanese automaker. It will be called the Baleno, a name which has been used by it earlier too. Choosing the same name again shows the brand’s confidence in the name and the popularity of it.
The Maruti Baleno will be competing in a highly competitive segment in India with one of the competitors being the Hyundai Elite i20 which sells in humongous numbers and is loaded to the brim. The other competitor comes in the form of Honda Jazz which gets decent amount of kit, acres of space and the Honda name. As per the spy pictures captured till now, Suzuki will leave no stone un-turned and equip its premium hatchback with all the goodies possible. Touchscreen infotainment system, start stop system, black interiors and climate control AC are all present. Another very useful and a segment first addition would be cruise control.
The Suzuki Baleno will come with a choice of one diesel engine and two petrol engines. The diesel engine would be the familiar 1.3-litre DDiS unit producing 90 PS of power. One of the two petrol engines would be the 1.2-litre K-Series motor which will ensure that the sticker price of the car remains low and it is easy to undercut the competition. The most interesting engine option would be the 1.0-litre dual-jet BoosterJet engine which is newly developed and is debuting on the premium hatchback. With the global unveil fixed for the 15th of September, an India launch can be expected soon after it post which exports will commence.
