The Hero Dash is codenamed AAWA and is powered by a 111cc single-cylinder engine and will come with a host of features including phone charging and an external fuel filler lid.
Even though the Maestro is the second best selling scooter in the country, it makes only a fraction of sales of what the Honda Activa manages in the same space. Predominantly a motorcycle maker, Hero MotorCorp has been eyeing the growing scooter segment and had showcased a host of new two-wheelers in January last year that will go on sale in the coming months. One of the concepts at the event was the Dash 110cc scooter that was confirmed for production and news now comes in that the Indian automaker will launch the scooter in October this year.
Codenamed AWAA, the Hero Dash is powered by a 111cc air-cooled, single-cylinder motor tuned to produce 8.56 PS of power at 7500 RPM and 9.4 Nm of torque at 5750 RPM, paired to a CVT transmission. The scooter has a kerb weight of 110 kgs and will get telescopic front forks and a twin shock setup at the rear. Stopping power comes from drum brakes at the front and rear and will be offered with Hero’s Integrated Braking System (IBS) as optional. While the performance figures are in-line with competition, features like a mobile phone charging unit, analog instrument cluster with digital display and external fuel filler will set it apart.
There were also rumours of the Dash 110cc scooter being renamed as the ‘Hero Specter’ for the production version. While there are no clear details on the same, it is likely that Hero could retain the Dash moniker as well. The new scooter’s sharp lines, alloy wheels and a dual-tone paint job will certainly help the company attract young set of buyers as the model rivals the Honda Activa, TVS Jupiter, Suzuki Let’s, Mahindra Gusto and the likes. Expect an initial price tag of Rs. 55,000/- (ex-showroom) on the Dash scooter. Further, Hero stated that it will launch two new scooters in the country over the next two months leading up to the festive season.
