The Triumph Tiger XR keeps the off-road fun intact with power coming from a much more refined 800cc in-line three cylinder engine.
Just three months after the Tiger XRx and XCx made its debut in India, Triumph Motorcycles has officially launched the new Tiger XR in the country priced at Rs. 10.50 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). Triumph’s adventure motorcycle series has been extremely popular ever since its launch and hence, the British manufacturer was compelled to bring the XR so soon given the strong demand for the product. The Tiger XR is being brought in via the Completely Knocked Down (CKD) route in India, improving its value proposition.
The Triumph Tiger XR continues to get the purposeful yet dominant styling as seen on other Tiger models complete with the twin headlamp setup. However, you do get new radiator shrouds and side panels with a matte finish, while the lines are sharper now. The double tube frame gets titanium powder coating. In terms of specifications, the Tiger XR is powered by an 800cc in-line three-cylinder liquid-cooled engine churning out 95 PS of power and 79 Nm of torque, paired to a 6-speed gearbox. The automaker says this new motor is more powerful and refined than before, offering enhanced fuel efficiency, agility and improved touring capability.
Triumph has made certain changes to the engine in order to reduce mechanical noise, while gear ratios have been improved for more precise changes with parts coming from the Daytona 675. Keeping the Triumph Tiger XR extremely stable on broken tracks are the 43 mm Showa Upside Down (USD) forks at the front, whereas the rear gets pre-load adjustable Showa mono-shock setup. The motorcycle rides on 19-inch tyres at the front and 17-inch tyres at the rear. The adventure bike comes with three riding modes namely Road Setting, Off-Road Setting and Programmable Rider Mode along with Triumph Traction Control, Cruise Control, Switchable ABS, four throttle maps, Ride by Wire among other bits.
Triumph states that the adventure motorcycle segment has huge potential in India in the luxury segment and the company surely wants to be at the forefront of the same. With the addition of the Tiger XR, the manufacturer now sells a total of 14 bikes in India and is operating out of 10 dealerships. Triumph will be adding two more showrooms in the country soon.
