The Fiat Linea Elegante special edition will get several interior and exterior upgrades over the standard model for a sporty appeal and is expected to be launched in the first week of August.
Part of the few driver centric cars sold in India, the Fiat Linea was last updated in 2014 with a cosmetic facelift, which did improve the product but not the sales by a considerable margin. A year later, Fiat India is now working on a new limited edition version of the Linea called ‘Elegante’ that was recently spotted testing in what seems to be the company’s parking lot at the Ranjangaon plant and is said to go on sale in the first week of August. The new Linea Elegante gets a host of updates over the regular model to infuse a sporty character in the sedan.
Over the regular version, the 2015 Fiat Linea Elegante limited edition gets a host of aesthetic upgrades including a new body kit with the wider front and rear bumper, side skirts and a spoiler at the rear. The front grille continues to get the chrome outline but the chrome slats have been blackened for the sporty look. Even the chrome bits from the bumper have been given a miss, while the roof has been given a black treatment to induce that sporty appeal. The side profile now boasts of new body graphics on the shoulder-line, while the alloy wheels are new and come from the updated Punto Evo.
Moving inside, the Fiat Linea Elegante has been updated with a touchscreen infotainment system replacing the 2-DIN audio unit. While not pictured, expect to see new upholstery for the seats on the limited edition model. In terms of mechanicals, expect no changes under the hood with a 1.3-litre MultiJet diesel engine producing 92 BHP and 209 Nm of torque, while petrol power comes from a 1.4-litre T-Jet motor that pumps out 112 BHP and 207 Nm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels via a 5-speed manual transmission.
While details are not out yet, expect the Linea Elegante limited edition to be available on the range-topping trims and will be priced at a slight premium over the standard variants. Fiat India has an interesting calendar for the remainder of the year with the Abarth 595 Competizione scheduled for launch next week that will be followed by the Abarth versions of the Punto and Avventura models around the festive season. The company is also in the process of launching the much awaited Jeep brand in the country which is likely to make its Indian debut this fiscal.
