After launching the Creta, Hyundai has now started road testing its new MPV that will be big on space. The vehicle will be showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo with the launch happening later in the year.

Hyundai New MPV Spotted
The Hyundai MPV has been codenamed IP and will be launched next year

Hyundai India finally launched the much-awaited Creta SUV yesterday. At the launch of the vehicle, company officials announced that they will be launching a new MPV which is currently undergoing development. The new MPV will be competing directly with the Renault Lodgy, Honda Mobilio and Maruti Ertiga. The Korean automaker first displayed the Hexa Space MPV concept at the 2012 Auto Expo to gauge public response for the vehicle.

As we can see in the spy pictures, the test mule has a curvy design unlike the boxy styling of the Nissan Evalia and Chevrolet Enjoy. Knowing Hyundai, we know they will surely come up with a pleasant design that will appeal to buyers. The glass area also looks very big and the MPV will have an airy feeling. Powering the new vehicle will be the same 1.4-litre petrol and diesel engines that also power the Verna sedan. At a later stage, the company might plonk in the bigger 1.6-litre diesel engine too. Hyundai will also offer an automatic gearbox with the car since none of the other MPVs get one currently.

The MPV has been codenamed IP and it is said that it will share many components with other vehicles from the same stable. Apart from the Creta, the IP will share some parts with the Grand i10 too. The MPV uses a new lower-cost platform that is derived from the Creta’s underpinnings and is actually a hybrid of many platforms. The launch time-frame of the new MPV is not yet clear but one can expect it to go on sale late next year.
