Ford has shipped certain units of the Figo hatchback to dealerships along with the Aspire compact sedan most probably to gauge customer response.
While Ford India is gearing up to launch the Figo Aspire in the second week of August, the automaker has silently shipped off few units of the Figo hatchback to dealerships across the country as these images suggest, in what we think might be to gauge customer response. With all eyes awaiting the launch of the Figo Aspire, the Figo hatchback is on the back burner for now and will reportedly arrive in December this year.
These particular set of images come from a Ford dealership in Udaipur, Rajasthan and reveal the India spec new generation Figo hatchback completely. The extensive gap in the timeline for the launch of both models is to avoid cannibalisation of sales for either offerings. Sharing a similar front fascia with the Aspire, the hatched version gets the Aston Martin inspired grille, bulbous headlights, ORVM integrated turn indicators, smart looking tail lights and petal shaped alloy wheels. Spotted here was the top Titanium variant that is expected to be equally loaded as its compact sedan derivative.
Unlike the sedan, the Ford Figo hatchback receives all-black interiors with brushed silver accents. The Titanium+ variant could get the premium looking piano black finish on the centre console and steering wheel like the Figo Aspire. From what we see, the Figo hatchback will get an infotainment screen (mostly likely with SYNC and also the dock holder on lower trims), auto climate control, steering mounted audio and phone controls, height adjustable seats, smart key, electric boot opener and at least dual airbags on all variants.
Under the hood, the 1.2-litre Ti-VCT petrol with 88 PS and 1.5-litre TDCi diesel with 100 PS will be on offer, both of which will come paired to a 5-speed manual transmission. It is unlikely that Ford will offer the 1.5-litre petrol mill paired to a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission on the Figo hatchback. The previous generation Figo was a great handler and we are keeping our hopes high with this one as well. Given the fact that the Figo Aspire is tuned for a more comfortable drive, the Figo hatchback could be positioned as a more sporty offering akin to Tata’s Zest and Bolt strategy. Prices for the new Figo are expected to start from Rs. 4.30 lakhs (ex-showroom).
