The Ford Figo Aspire will be available in three engine and two transmission options that will include a dual-clutch automatic transmission.
The Ford Figo Aspire is the next big contender in the compact sedan segment that just might make the competition feel some serious heat. Rivalling the Honda Amaze, Maruti DZire, Hyundai Xcent, Tata Zest and the likes, the American auto giant’s newest offering is scheduled for launch sometime around next month and details on the powertrain have now been revealed in addition to a host of salient features that will be found inside the cabin. Here is what you need to know.
The 2015 Ford Figo Aspire will be offered with three engine and two transmission options.
1) The petrol variants will draw power from a 1.2-litre four-cylinder Ti-VCT engine tuned to produce 88 PS and 112 Nm of torque, paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox. This engine is said to deliver an ARAI certified fuel efficiency figure of 18.2 km/l.
2) Diesel power will come from a 1.5-litre four-cylinder TDCi Duratorq engine that is also available on the Fiesta and EcoSport in Ford’s lineup and has been pumped up to produce 100 PS and 215 Nm of torque, paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The fuel efficiency figure for this unit stands at an ARAI certified 25.83 km/l.
3) In addition to the standard engines, Ford is offering something for the enthusiast as well with a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol Ti-VCT engine from the EcoSport that produces 112 PS of power and 136 Nm of torque. This motor is paired to a 6-speed dual-clutch PowerShift transmission and a delivers a fuel efficiency figure of 17.2 km/l.
As promising as the engine lineup sounds, the Ford Figo Aspire will also come with a host of segment firsts including 6 airbags (dual front airbags are standard on all variants), ABS and EBD; Ford SYNC with AppLink system with voice commands, My Ford Dock (mobile dock for lower variants), Ford MyKey, automatic climate control, height adjustable seats, electric power steering, 14-inch alloy wheels, leatherette upholstery on seats for the top-end variants and much more. The automatic variant will also get ESP and Hill Launch Assist as part of the electronic aids.
In terms of dimensions, the Ford Figo Aspire measures 3995 mm in length, 1695 mm in width and 1525 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2491 mm. The compact sedan weighs between 995-1015 kgs for petrol variants and between 1023-1048 kgs for diesel variants. The boot capacity stands at 359-litres while the ground clearance is 174 mm and a turning radius of 4.9-metres. The Figo Aspire will be available in Ambiente, Trend, Titanium and Titanium+ trim levels and six colour options. The compact sedan is being manufactured at Ford’s new state-of-the-art facility in Sanand, Gujarat and have already been previewed to masses at malls across the country.
