Jaguar India has imported one unit of the XE Portfolio to the country for homologation purposes. The vehicle has been imported at a cost of Rs. 20.79 lakhs.
The 2015 Jaguar XE was unveiled at the 2014 Paris Motor Show where the vehicle made its public debut. The XE is going to be the least expensive vehicle from Jaguar and will compete with other German sedans in its segment. The sedan is called the smallest, lightest and stiffest Jaguar and now this wild cat has been imported to India for homologation (earlier the car was imported in CKD condition for R&D). The vehicle that has been imported has the 2.0-litre petrol engine and is the Portfolio variant. It has arrived from the UK at a cost of approximately Rs. 20.79 lakhs. The 2.0-litre engine sends power to the rear wheels and comes in two states of tune – 200 PS of power and 280 Nm of torque and 240 PS of power and 340 Nm of torque.
Apart from this, the Jaguar XE will also be available with a 2.0-litre diesel engine, again in two states of tune. The first tune produces 163 PS of power while the other churns out 180 PS of power. The lowest spec tune also has a claimed fuel efficiency of 26.5 km/l. In the Euro markets, the vehicle will be offered with either a 6-speed manual transmission or an 8-speed automatic transmission. There is nil probability of the manual gearbox making its way to India and only the automatic will be offered here. The XE ‘S’ is going to be the most powerful variant of the sedan and it gets the same 3.0-litre V6 engine that the F-Type gets. This powerplant belts out 340 PS of power.
The Jaguar XE will be launched in five trims – Pure, R-Sport, S, Prestige and Portfolio. The car gets a lot of features like All Surface Progress Control, Traction Management System, stereo camera technology, Laser Heads-Up Display, Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Spot Monitoring with Close Vehicle Sensing. The vehicle will be brought down to India via the CKD route and we expect it to be priced between Rs. 33-38 lakhs (ex-showroom) to compete with the Mercedes C-Class, BMW 3-Series and Audi A4. However, the XE ‘S’ will be positioned at a slightly higher price point.
