The sixth generation Ford Mustang has been caught at ARAI in Pune, ahead of its launch in the Indian market. The muscle car will be priced close to Rs. 70 lakhs.
While news about Ford launching the Mustang has been floating around since a while, it seems that things are finally getting a concrete shape, what with the sixth generation Mustang being caught at ARAI which is located in Pune. The previous generations of the Mustang were made only in LHD and buyers had to modify them to RHD in the after-market, but the current generation is being produced in RHD as well, which means that Ford is enabled to launch it in a few more countries, catering to the wide fan-base that this vehicle has.
The model that is seen in the pictures is the 5.0-litre V8 version that produces 420 BHP of power and 528 Nm of torque. The engine comes with an option of a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox, and the one that is seen in the pictures is the automatic variant which also comes with paddle-shifters. The Mustang gets features like eight airbags, rear parking camera, independent front and rear suspensions and so on. Apart from this, the vehicle also comes with a 2.3-litre EcoBoost motor and a 3.7-litre V6 engine. Presently it is unclear as to which variants will be introduced here.
The Ford Mustang costs approximately Rs. 26-30 lakhs in the USA and it will be brought to India via the CBU route. After adding 170% taxes and duties and profits, we expect Ford to launch it an ex-showroom price of Rs. 65-70 lakhs, bang in the territory of the Mercedes CLA45 AMG. The Mustang is a muscle car and does not have any real competitors in India. We think it is going to sell in pretty good numbers because the pony car will stand out amongst the waves of Audis and BMWs on our roads.
