Land Rover will be launching the 2015 Discovery Sport in India in August and it will come via the CKD route, it replaces the Freelander 2.
Jaguar Land Rover India had announced at the beginning of 2015 that they will be launching the new 2015 Discovery Sport in India but they didn’t give out much details about the car. Even the official launch date wasn’t announced. Now, as we inch closer to the SUV’s launch, the Discovery Sport has been caught on the roads of Navi Mumbai (near Belapur railway station) undergoing testing, followed by a Jaguar XJ. As we can see, the vehicle is still sporting red TC plates meaning it is just fresh out of the assembly line.
The 2015 Land Rover Discovery Sport comes across as a significant change over the design of the outgoing Freelander. The new styling is very much inspired by the Evoque as well as the 2014 Range Rover models. The front carries the usual rugged and striking design with the trademark Evoque headlights. The fog lamps are integrated rather nicely in slats at either end of the bumper and there is a silver skid plate at the lower part of the bumper. The side profile also looks good but the alloys have a plain design. The A and C pillars are body-coloured while the B and D pillars come in a black finish. The rear is again similar to the Evoque while the tail lights carry different styling.
Land Rover will offer the 2015 Discovery Sport in both petrol and diesel engine options. The diesel engine is a 2.2-litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged unit giving out 180 PS of power while the petrol variant will make use of a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged plant producing 250 PS of power. Both the engines will be mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel-drive will also be offered. The SUV comes with a 5+2 seating arrangement and gets features like leather upholstery, dual-zone climate control system, panoramic sunroof, front seats with electric adjustment and USB charging sockets.
The 2015 Land Rover Discovery Sport will be launched in India in August. It will be brought down via the CKD route and assembled at the company’s Pune facility. It will be priced more than the Freelander 2 and we can expect it to cost approximately Rs. 50 lakhs (ex-showroom). The Discovery Sport will be directly competing with the BMW X3, Audi Q5 and Volvo XC60.
