Japanese auto major Honda has launched the first hybrid car in India, the Civic Hybrid, priced at a whooping Rs 21.5 lakh ex-showroom. While it may do good to the environment in terms of emissions, the price is almost double compared to the non hybrid S variant.
The car is powered by a 1.3 litre petrol engine(producing 94 bhp) with a electric motor(producing 20bhp) Together the Civic Hybrid with the electric motor (Honda calls this tech as IMA aka Integrated Motor Assist) produces 114bhp, add to that it is heavier by 80kgs then the standard Civic and you can throw performance out of the window. But then, this car is not about performance. Imported from Honda’s Suzuka plant in Japan, India is the 33rd country to get the Civic Hybrid.
“This is yet another step to strengthen Honda’s presence in India in line with our long term goal of bringing eco friendly vehicles,” Honda CL’s car India President and CEO Masahiro Takedawa said.
