General Motors has imported two units of the TrailBlazer in the country for homologation purposes and will be launching the SUV later this year.
The closure of General Motor’s Bekasi plant in Indonesia has turned out to be beneficial for its Indian subsidiary, which is finding it difficult to gain momentum at present. Rescheduling its plans for India, GM will be launching the Chevrolet TrailBlazer SUV and Spin MPV in the country this fiscal as part of its turnaround strategy and have been caught testing on several occasions. Now, import records suggest that the automaker has brought in two units of the TrailBlazer for homologation purposes hinting that the launch date is indeed coming closer.
Built on a ladder-on-frame chassis, the Chevrolet TrailBlazer is GM’s answer to the Toyota Fortuner, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, Hyundai Santa Fe and the likes in the premium SUV segment. The SUV gets of a brawny profile with a pleasing American design language and boasts of massive road presence. Powering the SUV are two engine options including the 2.5-litre and 2.8-litre diesels paired to 6-speed manual and automatic transmission options with All-Wheel Drive offered as standard. It is still unclear though if GM will offer both engines in the country at the time of launch.
The TrailBlazer is extremely crucial for Chevrolet as the company is trying to rebuild its reputation, which too has plummeted much like its sales. GM will be bringing the SUV via the CKD route from Thailand and comes loaded with several safety aids including ABS, EBD, ESC, Hill Start Assist and Hill Descent Control, among other tech. Prices for the 2015 Chevrolet TrailBlazer are expected to begin at Rs. 25 lakhs (ex-showroom) and will certainly please quite a few. With the next generation Fortuner also coming up, the segment is only going to get interesting.
