The Himalayan is Royal Enfield’s first off-roader motorcycle that will be powered by a newly developed 410cc single-cylinder engine and could be launched later this year.
Royal Enfield started experimenting with its products and launched the Continental GT bringing back the cafe racer body style, and is now working on its first tourer scrambler styled motorcycle called the ‘Himalayan’. The upcoming tourer was recently spotted testing in Chennai shedding some of the camouflage and the images reveal new details on the Himalayan that is expected to hit the showrooms later this year, manufactured from the company’s Chennai based facility.
The 2016 Royal Enfield Himalayan will be powered by a newly developed 410cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that is said to produce around 30 PS of power, higher than the Continental GT. As seen in the images, the tourer gets a step up seat with the chassis stepped up as well. The handlebar has been raised and you also witness a sculpted tank with a flat fuel filler cap. In addition, there are the new forged levers, dark shaded spoked rims and a new black tip exhaust. The tourer was equipped with the Thunderbird’s tail light which could be specific to the test mule.
That said, we could see several components being shared from Royal Enfield’s other products on the Himalayan tourer. The bike will get telescopic front forks with long travel and a monoshock setup at the rear along with round rear view mirrors and headlight. The legendary manufacturer will be positioning the Himalayan as its new flagship product and it is expected to be priced at Rs. 2.5 lakhs. Royal Enfield is aiming to become a world leader in the mid-size motorcycle segment and the Himalayan will be taking the company’s aspirations forward on the global front.
