Few months back a body-kit variant of the Maruti Ciaz was spotted undergoing testing while this time a new variant with DRLs and racing stripes has been caught.
The Maruti Ciaz was launched in India in September 2014 with great pomp. The SX4 successor is indeed a great attempt by Maruti and it ticks many boxes but somehow it has constantly lost out to its immediate Japanese rival, the Honda City. Maruti has tried hard to revive the Ciaz’s sales but unfortunately that hasn’t really happened. We were quite expecting Maruti to launch a couple of new and updated variants with added features and that’s when the Ciaz with body kit was spotted on test, a few months back.
Now another new variant of the Ciaz has been spotted plying inside the Maruti factory in Gurgaon, Haryana. This variant comes with standard LED DRLs that have been fitted on the bumper, below the headlights. Honestly, they look like after-market fitments. The other addition that we see to this model are the white racing stripes placed bang in the centre of the sedan. We feel that these racing stripes will make their way to the Ciaz RS that might be launched as a proper variant or even as a limited edition model. Knowing Maruti, you never know when they could unexpectedly launch a new special edition model.
The Ciaz that has been spotted doesn’t carry any other changes apart from the DRLs and racing stripes. The exteriors remain the same and the interiors too are not likely to get any changes as of now. The Maruti Ciaz is offered with two engines, a 1.3-litre diesel unit and a 1.4-litre petrol powerplant. The vehicle’s sales have been hovering around the 5000-odd units mark with the occasional dip to the 3000 and 4000-odd units mark. In comparison, the City has constantly been selling 6000-7000-odd units every month while the Hyundai Verna and Volkswagen Vento are far behind.
