The Activa not only is the best selling two-wheeler in March 2015 but also witnessed 30 percent growth in year-on-year sales.
As the battle for supremacy continues in the two-wheeler world, it is Honda that has taken the lead this time with its immensely popular Activa for the month of March 2015 as the company sold 2,07,270 units of the scooter. The Activa beat Hero’s number one seller the Splendor for the top spot while gaining a year-on-year growth of 30 percent. The Activa was also the only scooter on the top 10 best selling two-wheelers list holding the second spot for the 2014-15 fiscal.
The Activa has not only been a stellar seller for Honda but has been supremely ahead of other scooters as well in its class. The next most selling scooter was the Hero Maestro that sold 4,84,475 units during the last fiscal. Just to give you a perspective, that is the quarter of the Activa’s sales for the entire year. Honda also launched the third generation Activa in February this year with certain upgrades keeping the model fresh in the segment.
Doing a quick reminder of the specifications, the 2015 Activa 3G keeps its age old mechanicals intact and is powered by the same 109cc single-cylinder motor that produces 8 BHP of power and 8.83 Nm of torque, paired to a CVT transmission. The scooter continues to get the trail link set-up at the front and spring loaded suspension at the rear while stopping power comes from 130 mm drum brakes at the front and rear.
A tried and tested product, the Activa’s popularity is helping it sell so well. With Honda now leading the pack, it certainly needs to be seen how Hero MotoCorp will be playing its cards as the battle for supremacy continues. After talking to a few dealers, we came to know the Activa 3G is available right off the shelf with no waiting period. Some dealers are also offering discounts. This is because Honda has been piling up inventory at the dealer end to boost sales numbers of the Activa, seems like it has paid off.
