The 2015 Nano GenX Easy Shift emerges with a host of upgrades and will certainly be a more friendly city car with the AMT unit offered as an option.
Going under the scalpel for a comprehensive upgrade, Tata Motors has made some extensive changes to its most affordable offering and has now introduced the ‘Nano GenX’ for the 2015 model year. Featuring a host of upgrades with the most important being the addition of the AMT unit and the openable hatch, the Nano has been repositioned in the market as a peppy little city car. It is also now the smallest and the most affordable automatic to go on sale in the country. So what exactly are the updates on the 2015 Nano GenX Easy Shift? Read on to know more –
Design – Tata has introduced the new infinity design theme on the 2015 Nano GenX that is evident on the striking new front and rear bumper which features an infinity motif grille. The headlights have received smoked treatment along with black bezel and large fog lamps for an enhanced presence. The car also gets an integrated rear spoiler while the biggest addition of all is the openable hatch that gives you much better access to the boot. Tata is offering the new Nano GenX in seven colour options including Sangria Red (new), Persian Rose (new), Pearl White, Meteor Silver, Royal Gold, Dazzle Blue and Damson Purple.
Features – The new Nano GenX model has carried over most of the existing features and also gets new ones to enhance the city car’s appeal. The 2015 Nano comes loaded with an Electric Power Assisted Steering (EPAS) with active return function, front power windows, remote locking and air-con. In addition, the hatchback gets equipped with the AmphiStream music system that offers Bluetooth, CD, Radio, USB and AUX connectivity.
There is also a new MID unit that showcases details like Low Fuel Warning, Distance to Empty, Trip Meter, Average fuel consumption, Instant Fuel consumption, digital clock and Gear Shift Indicator (specific to the Easy Shift AMT trim). Also specific to the AMT variant, there is the built-in creep function that helps the car crawl as soon as the pressure is eased off the brake pedal without having to press the accelerator. The fuel tank capacity has been increased to 24-litres and the boot capacity stands at 94-litres.
Engine – The 2015 Nano GenX Easy Shift continues to draw power from the same 624cc twin-cylinder, 4-valve petrol engine that is tuned to produce 38 PS of power at 5500 RPM and 51 Nm of torque at 4000 RPM. The AMT variant though is marginally heavier at 755 kgs, compared to the 695 kgs of the manual variant. The GenX model is said to return an ARAI certified fuel efficiency figure of 21.9 km/l on the AMT version.
Transmission – While the 4-speed manual gearbox continues to be on offer, Tata Motors has also introduced the Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) on the Nano GenX ‘Easy Shift’. This is a 5-speed AMT unit that is already found on the Zest diesel and also comes with a ‘Sports’ mode to keep the enthusiast happy. The automaker will be offering the manual transmission on 3 variants namely – XE, XM, XT while the AMT unit will be available on the top-of-the-line XTA trim.
In addition, Tata Motors has initiated the Power of 1+1 programme that allows customers to the best exchange rate for their old Nano and avail a special bonus of Rs. 20,000/- on the purchase. Customers can also enroll for a referral programme that can get them a cash prize of Rs. 5000/-. The automaker has already commenced bookings of the new Nano with deliveries set to begin immediately post the launch scheduled in the following days.
