Bajaj Auto will launch the Pulsar 150 NS next month and the current Pulsar 150 will not be discontinued and will continue to be sold alongside.
Bajaj Auto is on a Pulsar rampage, after having launched three Pulsar models in less than a month’s time, the company is all set to launch another Pulsar next month, which is none other than the volume spinning Pulsar 150 NS. Details of the Pulsar 150 NS were already available in ample as the bike was showcased overseas and post the launch of the Pulsar 150 AS, there is nothing left to know except the price of course. We can speculate that too, it could be around Rs. 76,500/- (ex-showroom, Delhi) and prior to the launch, Bajaj is likely to remove the introductory status on the price of the Pulsar 150 AS which is currently priced at Rs. 79,000/-.
The Pulsar 150 NS is nothing but the Pulsar 150 AS sans the semi-fairing, projector headlight and the front visor. Everything else remains largely the same, thus the mudguard is identical and not like the 200 NS which has a tyre hugger. We recently spotted the Pulsar 150 NS on test on the outskirts of Pune and this seems to be the final round of testing before the motorcycle goes into production in May 2015.
The engine on the Pulsar 150 NS will be a 149.5cc, 4-valve, DTS-i unit which will use twin spark plugs and not three. The air-cooled motor produces 17 PS of power at 9500 RPM which is indeed class leading for this category but torque output is low at 13 Nm (peaks at 7500 RPM). This motor is matched to a 5-speed gearbox and should boast of excellent fuel economy figures. The bike is underpinned by a perimeter frame which will give it excellent dynamics while braking duties are taken care by a 240 mm disc up front and a 130 mm drum at the rear (no rear disc, not even as an option).
The Pulsar 150 NS comes equipped with 80/100/17 and 110/80/17 tyres at the front and rear respectively, it gets a rear monoshock. So the underpinnings are solid and the new engine should offer punchy performance too. Competition will come in the form of the Honda CB Unicorn 160 and the Suzuki Gixxer, it is indeed going to be a tough battle. Maybe Bajaj can win customers immediately by bringing in a Pulsar RS 150. Meanwhile, the RE60 quadricycle continues to test and a launch doesn’t seem in sight for this 4-wheeler which is turning into a Mojo.
