You read it first on MotorBeam. The latest generation W222 series Mercedes S-Class was launched in India in January 2014 starting with the S500 model. Soon after in June last year, the luxury carmaker introduced the diesel variant, S350 CDI with a highly competitive price. Now that the flagship Mercedes has anchored its claws in the country, its Affalterbach cousin, S63 AMG is all set to get unleashed in July this year. The wild and restless super luxury saloon is expected to come with a colossal price tag of Rs. 2.2 crores (ex-showroom, Delhi).
Mercedes dealers have started taking bookings for the S63 AMG and deliveries will commence soon after the launch. The performance oriented S-Class is powered by a 5.5-litre twin-turbo, V8 engine that churns out a jaw-dropping 577 BHP of maximum power and 900 Nm of insane torque. Mated to this monstrous motor is a 7-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT multi-clutch automatic transmission. It has three modes to choose – C (Controlled Efficiency), S (Sport) and M (Manual) while the suspension offers comfort and sport modes.
The German automaker has used lightweight materials to build the S63 AMG that weighs 1995 kgs, similar to the diesel version. It is available in both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive transmission layouts. It can do 0-100 km/hr sprint in just 4.4 seconds in the RWD version while the AWD hits the magical numbers in 4 seconds. The S63 AMG has a top speed of 300 km/hr, which will be limited to 250 km/hr when it arrives in India. In terms of styling, it gets aggressive front and rear bumpers with wide airdams. Interiors get exclusive AMG elements but the upholstery and embellishments are highly customisable.
