The 1290 Super Adventure was brought in privately by an importer for sale and won’t make it to the Indian market this year. KTM could showcase the model at dealerships in the future to gauge response.
With the 1190 Adventure R recently spotted at a KTM dealership in the country which turned out to be a private import, import data now shows that the 1290 Super Adventure tourer motorcycle has also been brought into the country. Confirming the same, Indian Racing Bazaar has posted a picture of the adventure bike being assembled and says to have brought the model as a private import in India for sale and is said to cost around Rs. 10 lakhs (on-road).
The KTM 1290 Super Adventure is positioned above the 1190 Adventure R in the brand’s lineup and draws power from the 1301cc liquid-cooled, 75-degree V-Twin engine tuned to produce 160 HP. Loaded highly on electronic gadgetry, the tourer has a long list of features including traction control, several riding modes, semi-active suspension, cruise control, cornering lights, bar heaters, 12-volt sockets, case racks along with optional features like electronic hill hold control and MSR. Safety tech includes ABS, Motorcycle Stability Control, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System among other features.
KTM boss Stefan Pierer had stated earlier that the company will be bringing the adventure motorcycles to India; but does not have any immediate plans of launching its adventure range in the country. The market for adventure tourers is still a small one but is surely opening and will witness great demand in the future. While we do not expect KTM to venture into the segment very soon, the 1190 and 1290 Adventure models will eventually make it to the Indian shores most likely via the CKD route.
