The 2015 Mercedes C-Class has won the grand prize as the World Car of the year 2015 beating the Ford Mustang and Volkswagen Passat to the title.
It was certainly “the day” for Mercedes-Benz as the company walked home with three titles at the World Car Awards announced at the New York International Auto Show. The German auto giant was granted the coveted 2015 World Car of the Year title for the new generation C-Class sedan which won the grand prize after being shortlisted among 24 other vehicles and made it to the final three along with the Ford Mustang and Volkswagen Passat. The jury comprising of 75 journalists from 22 countries concluded that the new C-Class delivered superior levels of refinement, luxury, safety, ride and handling.
Based on the new aluminium and steel platform, the 2015 Mercedes C-Class takes several cues from the flagship S-Class in terms of design and equipment that definitely benefited the model lending that extra premium appeal in addition to the potent petrol and diesel engines sending power to the rear wheels. Apart from the C-Class, Mercedes also picked up the World Performance Car of the Year title for the AMG GT coupe and Wold Luxury Car of the Year award for the S-Class coupe.
While Mercedes took home most of the honours, the other German, BMW wasn’t far behind as it grabbed the World Green Car of the Year award for the new i8 while French auto major Citroen won the World Car Design of the Year award for the C4 Cactus.
