The Audi S5 Sportback is a four-door sedan with a sloping roofline and is powered by the subtly powerful 328 BHP 3.0-litre V6 engine.
The largest luxury car maker by volumes in India, Audi is surely loving to be the number one and wants to hold on to the title for as long as possible. Extremely aggressive in bringing its products to the country, the Ingolstadt-based automaker will be launching the S5 Sportback in India by mid-2015 further strengthening its position in the luxury space. A smaller derivative to the larger A7 and RS7 Sportback models, the S5 offers the practicality of a sedan with four doors while the sloping roofline sets the model apart from other conventional offerings.
Positioned between the S4 and S6 models, the Audi S5 is more civilized compared to its absolutely crazy sibling the RS5 coupe. The design is less striking on the Sportback but gets a distinctive profile courtesy of the roofline. The sloping roof integrates well into the boot thereby leaving a lasting impression along with the long hood and the car also appears wider than the sedan version. In addition, you get LED DRLs, low profile tyres and the ‘S’ badge at the rear that give away the model’s performance capabilities.
Powering the Audi S5 Sportback is a 3.0-litre V6 TFSI petrol engine tuned to produce 328 BHP and is paired to the 7-speed S tronic automatic transmission with power being sent to all wheels via the Quattro system. The S5 also gets a more toned down chassis compared to the feisty RS5 with the suspension softened to make it more compatible for use on a daily basis. Internationally, the S5 is also available in coupe and convertible body styles.
The Audi S5 Sportback will certainly appeal to the style conscious buyer who wants to stand out from the crowd with a fast yet tamable offering. Expected to be priced at around Rs. 70 lakhs (ex-showroom), the S5 Sportback comes as a lucrative alternative to the regular A6, BMW 5-Series and the Mercedes E-Class that are also available at a similar price point.
