The new Shell Advanced Ultra motor oil is manufactured by converting natural gas into crystal-clear base oil and India is one of the first markets where the product has been launched.
After teasing it for weeks now, the Shell Advanced Ultra synthetic motor oil with PurePlus Technology was launched in India at the recently concluded India Bike Week 2015 in Vagator, Goa. Shell says that the new premium motor oil will improve the riding experience of bikers given the varied climatic and geographical conditions in the country and has been derived from the continued philosophy of bringing track learning on the road.
The company states that the new Shell Advance Ultra with PurePlus Technology is the most advanced synthetic oil ever and is manufactured by the revolutionary Gas-to-Liquid (GTL) process. This process converts natural gas into crystal-clear base oil with virtually none of the impurities that are otherwise found in crude oil. Developed at Shell’s Pearl GTL plant in Qatar, the new synthetic oil has been developed through 40 years of research. The synthetic oil is available in the SAE 10W-40 specification.
Explaining the manufacturing of the Shell Advance Ultra with PurePlus technology, the process begins with the extraction of natural gas from Qatar’s North Field, which is then put in a gasifier. Here methane reacts with pure oxygen to produce synthesis gas, which then enters one of 24 reactors at the plant where chains of hydrocarbons are rearranged and transformed into a liquid base oil virtually free of all the impurities found in crude oil.
Some of the attributes of Shell’s new synthetic oil include high viscosity stability that offers best possible protection under extreme conditions and has doubled the oil changing intervals from 3000 kms to 6000 kms. In addition, the new oil also helps in improving fuel efficiency by keeping the engine performance at optimum levels throughout the 6000 kms run. With India being the third market globally to receive the new oil, the Shell Advance Ultra with PurePlus Technology will be available in the country with a price tag of Rs. 827/- for a one litre can.
