Ford has imported the new generation Endeavour in India for testing. It will be available with a new 3.2-litre diesel engine and is expected to launch by 2015 end.
The new generation Ford Endeavour, also known as the Ford Everest in the international market was revealed in its production avatar recently. However, Ford hasn’t put the SUV on sale yet, as it’s still undergoing tests globally. Just two days, back Ford India has also imported the new generation Endeavour for testing. This shows that Ford is betting big on the upcoming SUV to gain significant market share in the lucrative premium SUV space, which is currently being led by the Toyota Fortuner.
The particular model imported for testing is powered by a new 3.2-litre, 5-cylinder Duratorq diesel engine that produces 197 BHP of maximum power with 470 Nm of peak torque. This engine comes with 6-speed manual and automatic transmission options internationally. The new Ford Endeavour is based on the Ford Ranger pick-up truck platform and measures 4882 mm in length, 1862 mm in width and 1836 mm in height with a wheelbase of 2850 mm. It has a ground clearance of a healthy 225 mm.
The styling of the new Ford Endeavour is worth appreciating. It has that big, macho stance to scare its rivals with a touch of premiumness. On the inside, Ford offers a luxurious cabin with light colour tones, huge sunroof, 7 seats and hi-tech multimedia system featuring 8-inch touchscreen and SYNC 2. Ford has to position the new Endeavour smartly with aggressive pricing. Initially it can give a big dent to Toyota’s sales but remember, the next generation Fortuner is not far away. Expect Ford to launch the new generation Endeavour in India by the end of 2015.
