The Hyderabad police department will soon make use of the Etios and Liva in their fleet. The vehicles will be used on a trial basis first and later-on more units will be ordered.
Gone are the days when our cops used to be seen roaming around the city in old-school Jeeps and noisy Bullets. The police is becoming more and more modern and now they are also opting for newer vehicles which offer more speed, acceleration and reliability. The Hyderabad police already has some Toyota Innovas in its fleet but manoeuvring such a huge MPV is not always easy. To counter this, the police has now opted to get the Toyota Etios and Etios Liva vehicles in its fleet. As of now, these vehicles will be used on a trial basis and if things work properly, then the police department might just order more units of the said vehicles.
On the exteriors, the Toyota Etios and Liva now get a blue livery made for the police. The colour of the base car used is white. On the top, huge police lights have been mounted. The vehicles don’t have any other changes on the outside except the graphics. The Etios sedan is a top-end diesel variant with alloys and airbags while the Liva is a mid variant diesel. The interiors of these vehicles come with a wireless communication kit to be used by the police. These cars were spotted at Harsha Toyota, Kondapur, Hyderabad by MotorBeam reader Vamsi Atluri.
It is good to see our various departments like the police getting modern and using newer means of transport and new technology. The Etios siblings provide good reliability and they are quick enough for the city. There don’t seem to be any changes made to the mechanicals of the vehicles spotted here. The Etios and Liva come with a 1.4-litre diesel engine producing 67 BHP of power and 170 Nm of torque. They are also pretty much fuel efficient with an ARAI-claimed efficiency of 23.59 km/l. The vehicles would have looked even better had they installed black crash-guards on them.
