Launched in September last year, the Maruti Ciaz isn’t performing very nicely and to boost its sales, the automaker will be coming up with a new RS variant.

The Maruti Ciaz was launched in September 2014 to take on other C-Segment sedans and it was meant to be the replacement for the ageing SX4. The Ciaz got off to a great start but after the initial couple of months, sales started to decline and the Honda City managed to regain its top spot in the segment. The Ciaz has been witnessing neutral sales every month and it isn’t really performing as nicely as Maruti expected it to. Knowing Maruti, the king of limited editions, we were quite expecting them to launch a limited edition of the Ciaz and looks like the Ciaz is actually going to get a new edition very soon.

The Maruti Ciaz has been spied with a body kit which indicates that the company might be considering launching an RS version of the vehicle soon. We must say that the Ciaz RS looks very good and the body kit makes the car a looker. However, it is not yet confirmed whether the RS version will be sold for the long term and will it be available for all variants or will it only be a limited edition variant. It will be a blessing if Maruti decides to skip on cheesy-looking decals on this edition. The company might offer some extra accessories like seat covers also with this variant.

There is no chance that the Maruti Ciaz will get any mechanical changes so soon. It will continue to draw power from the same 1.4-litre petrol and 1.3-litre diesel engines. The petrol engine produces 91 HP of power and 130 Nm of torque while the diesel engine gives out 89 HP of power and 200 Nm of torque. The Maruti Ciaz is priced between Rs. 7.21 – 10.37 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi) and this RS variant of the sedan might take prices up by Rs. 35,000-45,000/-.

The Maruti Ciaz has got huge competition now with the already hot performing Honda City and the soon-to-come new Hyundai Verna. It also competes with other sedans like the Nissan Sunny, Renault Scala, Skoda Rapid, Volkswagen Vento, Ford Fiesta and Fiat Linea. Compared to the SX4, the Ciaz is performing exceptionally well but it’s too early to say as the SX4 too sold in good numbers in the initial few months after launch.
