Renault has released pictures and details of the new Kadjar SUV which will be slotted above the Captur. The Kadjar will replace the Koleos in the global market.
Renault currently has the Koleos in the premium SUV segment but the automaker has just unveiled the Kadjar SUV. The Kadjar will be positioned above the sub-compact Captur SUV. The Renault Kadjar shares its underpinnings with the Nissan Qashqai. The design on the Kadjar looks bold and the SUV is a true looker. The bonnet is curvy and the front bumper and grille too have curvy design elements but the headlights look sharp. The front grille houses a huge Renault logo too. The same curvy theme is carried over to the side and the black body cladding looks quite unique on this SUV. The cladding on the side gets chrome inserts too.
The rear part of the Renault Kadjar isn’t as bold as the front. Sure, it looks good but the tail gate and bumper combination don’t seem to blend in well with the overall design of the car. The rear bumper gets dual exhaust outlets. The vehicle also gets silver roof rails and really good looking alloy wheels. Overall, the Renault Kadjar looks very appealing. The interiors of the Kadjar seem to be inspired by German vehicles and the design of the dashboard and centre console is simplistic yet premium. The vehicle gets a Renault R-Link 2 multimedia system which comes with a 7-inch capacitive colour touchscreen TFT display along with features like voice commands, navigation, apps and radio.
Renault has not yet revealed engine details for the Kadjar but reports suggest that it will make use of the same engines offered on the Qashqai. The petrol engine line-up includes 1.2-litre and 1.6-litre DIG-T turbocharged units while the diesel variants get 1.5-litre and 1.6-litre DCI engines. The Renault Kadjar will come with a start-stop system and options of front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive variants.
The AWD variants will get three modes – Auto, Lock and 2WD. The SUV comes with 190 mm of ground clearance. The Kadjar will make its debut at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show next month and it will go on sale in Europe soon after that. The Renault Kadjar will replace the Koleos SUV globally and it is likely that Renault will launch it in India next year, bringing it via the CKD route.
