Bajaj Auto has launched the Platina ES, which will be sold side-by-side with the regular Platina version. The Platina ES comes with electric start option.
We saw a few pictures of the new Bajaj Platina ES earlier this week and now the company has finally launched the bike. The Platina ES comes with electric start and also the most fuel efficient engine that Bajaj has developed till date. To differentiate the bike from its earlier model, Bajaj has added new body graphics and the Platina ES will be available in three colour options – Ebony Black, Electron Blue and Candy Red. Apart from this, the bike will get body-coloured grab rails at the back and a blacked-out engine along with black alloys.
The Bajaj Platina ES is powered by a 102cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled, four-stroke engine which comes with dual spark plugs and twin valves. A maximum power output of 8.2 BHP is produced by the engine at 7500 RPM while peak torque is rated at 8.62 Nm at 5000 RPM. The engine is mated to a 4-speed transmission that comes with an all-down pattern. The engine sends power to the rear wheel using a final chain drive. The fuel tank has a capacity of 11.5-litres. Both the wheels come with 110 mm drum brakes. The Platina ES comes with Bajaj’s suspension-in-suspension technology which makes use of a telescopic front suspension and dual hydraulic shock absorbers.
Since this is a commuter bike meant for the masses, Bajaj is trying to keep maintenance low and hence a zero-maintenance battery has been plonked in the bike. The new Platina ES will be sold alongside the current Platina at a premium of Rs. 4500/-. The Bajaj Platina costs Rs. 41,831/- (ex-showroom, Mumbai) while the Platina ES is priced at Rs. 45,431/- (ex-showroom, Mumbai) which translates to Rs. 52,000/- (on-road, Mumbai). Last but definitely not the least, the bike gives out an amazing claimed fuel efficiency of 96.9 km/l.
