The yellow coloured Ford EcoSport launched in Japan has been made in India at the company’s facility near Chennai.
Adding a funky touch to the young compact SUV, Ford has launched a limited edition variant of the EcoSport in Japan priced at 25,30,000 Yen (Rs. 13.12 lakhs) in the country. With production limited to 70 units only, the EcoSport Special Edition boasts of a bright yellow paint job (originally sold on the Indian Figo as School Bus yellow), while contrasting rear wheel cover and ORVMS can also be availed with a choice of 6 colours on offer. Interestingly the EcoSport sold in Japan is exported from Ford’s Chennai based facility in India.
Only available in the top-end Titanium trim, the Ford EcoSport Bright Yellow edition gets leather seats with contrast stitching, 6 speaker entertainment system with Ford SYNC as well as host of safety features including dual and side airbags, ABS, ESP, Brake Asist, Traction Control among others. The Japan spec Ford EcoSport measures 4195 mm in length as opposed to the sub 4-metre length on the Indian version, while the width measures the same at 1765 mm. The height on the other hand differs by a small margin with the Japan spec model measuring lower at 1655 mm (Indian model measures 1708 mm).
In terms of powertrain, the Ford EcoSport special edition uses a 1.5-litre petrol engine under the hood churning out 111 PS at 6300 RPM and 140 Nm of torque at 4400 RPM. Power is sent to the front wheels via a 6-speed Powershift automatic gearbox. Coming to the domestic model, Ford India originally launched the EcoSport in 2013 with no subsequent special editions launched and has been the company’s best selling model till date. With sales consistent as ever, the automaker is unlikely to launch a special edition variant in the country any time soon. Do you think the EcoSport bright yellow edition will find takers in India?
