Hyundai has decided to pull out of the Japanese car market amid sluggish sales, and focus on commercial vehicles instead. Hyundai, has found it tough to compete in Japan and has managed to sell only 15,000 cars since 2001 when it made inroads into the home market of international rivals Toyota and Honda. The timing of the pull out will be decided after consulting with loacl dealerships there.

“Hyundai Motor has decided to suspend passenger vehicle sales in Japan and will instead allocate its resources to focus on commercial vehicle sales in the country,” Hyundai said. “If the market environment improves in Japan it could resume passenger car sales there.”
