The Jaguar XE will be launched at the next Auto Expo scheduled in February 2016 and will be locally assembled at the JLR plant in Pune.
The XE sedan was unveiled last year in London with much of fan fare as the most affordable Jaguar in recent times and the car will be making its entry to Indian shores at the next Auto Expo scheduled to take place in February 2016. With the company planning to take on Mercedes, BMW and Audi in the luxury segment, the XE sedan will be pulling in volumes for the British automaker globally, offering impressive driving dynamics and luxury in a stellar package.
Coming to its Indian operations, a recent report states that Jaguar will be offering the XE in the fully loaded variants and the pricing is expected to command a premium over its rivals. This is being done to retain the luxury brand image of the Tata owned company. Yet to go sale in Europe, the India spec XE will come with the new 2.0-litre 4-cylinder diesel engine producing 161 BHP of power from JLR’s new Ingenium family of engines, while a 2.0-litre petrol unit will also join the lineup. Both the engines will come paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission as standard, while a 6-speed manual is also on offer internationally.
Jaguar will commence assembling the XE sedan in the country from next year at the JLR facility in Pune, while few initial units could be imported as CBU’s from the automaker’s plant in the UK. While a premium pricing is expected on the XE, Jaguar needs to ensure that the sedan is not overly priced against the competition in the very competitive segment. Prices for the Jaguar XE are expected to start at around Rs. 40 lakhs (ex-showroom) when it goes on sale next year.
