Audi is all set to launch the second generation Q7 in India by November this year, bringing its flagship vehicle via the CKD route.
The Audi Q7 was the first SUV from the German carmaker’s stable that has been quite a desirable SUV since its launch in 2006. The immense road presence, comfortable cabin and potent engines make it an appealing package in the full-size SUV segment. Even after a decade of its debut, the Q7 still manages to attract many eyeballs on the road. However, it has started showing its age with the basic interior, outdated features, etc. The second generation Audi Q7 has made its debut in the international market and is being tested extensively on Indian soil.
The 2016 Audi Q7 is confirmed for launch in India later this year for the last quarter of 2015. In terms of styling, the new model is recognisable as a Q7 but looks sharper and slim compared to the curvy design of the outgoing model. The silhouette retains the big SUV stance of the Q7 in a more sophisticated manner. The new chiseled chrome grille is in line with the latest design language supported by aggressive headlights and big airdams. At the rear too it gets sharp tail lights with sporty details on the bumper.
Despite being smaller in dimensions, the new Audi Q7 comes with more space on the inside, thanks to the longer wheelbase. It’s based on the new MLB platform that makes it lighter by 325 kgs with extensive use of aluminium. The all-new interior is drop-dead gorgeous carrying a futuristic theme on the dashboard with a chunky steering wheel. The no nonsense layout falls easy on the eyes with minimal use of buttons on the centre console. There is a 12.3-inch TFT screen, multifunction steering wheel and a knob shifter. It gets Smartphone connectivity with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Powering the 2016 Audi Q7 is a range of engine options including a 3.0-litre V6 diesel producing 272 PS and 600 Nm of torque and a 3.0-litre V6 supercharged petrol engine producing 333 PS and 440 Nm of torque. Both the engines are mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The new offering will be assembled locally in India but expect a marginal increase in price. It will compete with the Mercedes GL-Class, BMW X5 and Porsche Cayenne. Along with the Q7, Audi is all set to launch the Q3 and A6 facelifts in the second quarter of this year.
