The Bajaj Pulsar 150 has been showcased internationally with the redesigned aesthetics and updates mechanicals hinting towards no 160 NS name as opposed to earlier speculations.
The replacement to the outgoing Bajaj Pulsar 150 and 180 models have been under wraps since quite some time now with test mules emerging now and then. While it was earlier reported that the replacement to the current version was called the ‘Pulsar 160 NS’, these images of the bike being showcased internationally speak otherwise negating the possibilities of a bigger 160cc engine as Bajaj has resorted to the ‘Pulsar 150’ moniker on the new offering.
While the details have not been revealed yet, it can be believed that the 2015 Bajaj Pulsar 150 might not get the ‘NS’ suffix and instead will make do with the existing name. A strategy that we are yet to decipher. The new Pulsar 150 takes heavy inspiration from the 200 NS with the similarly designed headlight cluster, body panels, split seats, underbelly exhaust as well as the instrument cluster. In addition, the Pulsar 150 gets new alloy wheels and a monoschock rear suspension, while the grab rails and tail light cluster can be traced back to the outgoing version.
The images also highlighted the DTS-i engine with triple spark technology and 4-valve as key additions and we expect few other noteworthy changes to the powertrain that will bump up the power by a significant margin over the current 15.06 PS mill which is paired to a 5-speed gearbox. Producing more power from the same engine can also reduce fuel consumption and emission levels. In terms of stopping power, the Pulsar 150 gets a front disc brake, while the rear has to make do with a drum brake set-up.
While Bajaj has kept the launch dates under wraps for the upcoming Pulsar series, the new 150 could hit the showrooms by mid-2015 as it will be locking horns against the Suzuki Gixxer, Yamaha FZ 2.0, Honda CB Unicorn 160 and the likes in the segment. Keeping in mind Bajaj’s extremely impressive low cost of production, the new Pulsar 150 will come with an extremely attractive price tag undercutting the competition at around Rs. 70,000/- (ex-showroom).
