Chevrolet showcased the upcoming 2016 Volt at the CES ahead of its official unveil at the Detroit Auto Show on 12th January.
The first generation Chevrolet Volt has always been an interesting vehicle but its replacement is long due. Chevrolet is slated to officially reveal details about the 2016 Volt at the Detroit Auto Show on 12th January but the American automaker surprised everyone by displaying the Volt for 30 seconds at the ongoing Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. Chevrolet didn’t reveal any technical details about the vehicle and only displayed the exteriors to the shutterbugs for a brief period.
The 2016 Chevrolet Volt looks good at first glance but it is missing that aggressive look which was expected from it. The front headlights are multi-layered with small turn indicators at the edges. The front grille is silver in colour and gets a small bowtie logo. The front lower grille is bigger and is again silver. Both the edges of the front bumper get vertical DRLs. Chevrolet has chosen a good design for the alloys and the window frames get chrome surrounds.
Powering the second generation 2016 Chevrolet Volt will be a 1.5-litre petrol engine with a lithium-ion battery with revised cell chemistry. The storage capacity of the battery will be increased by 20 percent even though the new battery is 13 kgs lighter than the existing battery. The motor has also been improvised upon and it will be 5-10 percent more efficient than the current model and it is 45 kgs lighter too. More details will be known next week when the Volt gets unveiled.
