Pre-bookings for the Datsun GO+ have commenced for an amount of Rs. 11,000/-. Nissan is offering a ‘Welcome Pack’ to lure customers.
Datsun has announced the commencement of pre-bookings for its upcoming model, the GO+ which is set for launch on the 15th of January. The sub 4-metre vehicle looks like a station wagon and the Japanese company calls it a family wagon. Also referred to as India’s first compact MPV, the Datsun GO+ will be offered with a single engine option only, there is no diesel on offer and the petrol motor is the same unit that does duty in the GO hatchback. The 1.2-litre 3-pot mill generates 68 PS and 104 Nm, matched to a 5-speed gearbox.
The + in the GO+ is to signify the added space offered by the third row. We have driven the car and found the GO+ to be a 5-seater at best, with the last row being best utilised for keeping luggage. So the GO+ is a make-shift 7-seater with children sitting in the last row or a 5-seater with a big boot. The booking amount for the car is Rs. 11,000/- and is refundable. One can book at any Nissan dealer across the country and Datsun will reward initial buyers with a ‘Welcome Pack’.
The Datsun GO+ has no direct competitor at the moment as there is no sub 4-metre MPV in the Indian market. However, Maruti Suzuki plans to launch a 7-seater version of the Wagon R next year. While the GO has come under scrutiny for its safety or rather the lack of it, the GO+ doesn’t offer anything extra in terms of equipment. It will be interesting to see the response to the compact MPV in the Indian market with tremendous awareness being created about active and passive safety features including ABS and airbags, both of which remain absent on the GO+.
