The Mercedes E400 Cabriolet will be the flagship E-Class on offer and will be brought in the country via the CBU route.
Riding high on a positive 2014, Mercedes-Benz India has a slew of launches planned for next year with a range of new launches and product refreshes in the pipeline. One of the more significant launches will be the new range topping E-Class with the new E400 Cabriolet that will sit above the E250 and E350 four-door saloon models. The two-door drop-top version had been through the homologation process earlier this year, making it ready for launch.
Aesthetically, the 2015 Mercedes E400 is nothing short of gorgeous with a bold front grille and split headlamps. The side profile has a strong stance with the elongated doors and comes with AMG styled 19-inch alloy wheels. The rear is largely the same as the regular four-door saloon version, albeit loses out on the roof and boot space. In terms of creature comforts, the E400 Cabriolet comes loaded with goodies like PARKTRONIC, Keyless-GO, THERMATIC automatic climate control system as well as Harman Kardon Logic 7 audio system and a 360-degree camera. You also get the AIRSCARF neck collar, which essentially is a heater for your neck.
In terms of performance, the Mercedes E400 is powered by a 3.0-litre Bi-Turbo V6 engine that is tuned to belt out 328 HP of power and 480 Nm of torque, paired to a 7G-TRONIC Plus automatic transmission. Keeping the wind in your hair happy will be the 0-100 km/hr sprint that is achievable in 5.3 seconds. In addition, the drop-top on the E400 Cabriolet can be opened or closed up to speeds of 40 km/hr. The E500 also comed with safety systems like Distronic Plus with Steering Assist, Pre-Safe Brake with Active Pedestrian Protection and Pre-Safe Plus among other features.
While Mercedes brings the E-Class sedan range via the CKD route, the E400 Cabriolet will be brought in as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) and will be positioned at a significant premium over the regular version. The E400 is expected to be priced around Rs. 85 lakhs (ex-showroom) courtesy of the high import duties and a launch is expected in the first half of 2015.
