Audi commences testing the A6 facelift in India which will continue to be brought down via the CKD route. The car gets more features and looks sharper, the tweaked engines perform better.
In September this year, Audi unveiled the mid-life facelift of its popular A6. The complete Audi A6 range was updated including the S6 and RS6. We don’t get the RS6 in India because it’s a station wagon while the S6 is brought in via the CBU route. Now Audi has imported one unit of the 2015 A6 to the country for testing purpose. The said vehicle is brought in from Germany and is powered by a 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine. Audi will launch the facelifted A6 in the country early next year, increasing the prices marginally for the new model.
The 2015 Audi A6 (or MY 2016 as the company likes to call it) gets a host of changes including a shaper exterior and more loaded interior. The changes are in-line with what the A8 received last year (optional Matrix LED lights are also on offer). The new A6 gets an improved infotainment system but the changes aren’t limited to design and equipment alone as Audi has also given the car new stronger springs which are not only lighter but also more rigid.
The reduction in weight has helped Audi maintain the A6 as the lightest car in the segment (it’s also the only car in its class to be front-wheel driven with higher models getting quattro). Engine options will remain the same (albeit with tweaks for improved performance and efficiency) in India with 2.0-litre and 3.0-litre petrol and diesels while gearbox duties will be performed by a 7-speed automatic (there is no 8-step CVT anymore, yeah). Audi will unveil the next generation A4 next year while the next generation A6 will break cover in 2016, going on sale in India in 2017.
