General Motors has silently recalled affected Cruze models to replace the PVC bracket that holds the wiring in place in the engine bay, but has not issued a recall officially.
Without issuing an official recall exercise notice, General Motors is silently recalling certain units of the Cruze D-segment sedan in India. While details on the number of units affected or the manufacturing period have not been revealed yet, the American automaker has asked certain customers to bring in their cars to replace the PVC bracket that holds the wiring in place in the engine bay. It is believed that the part replacement will take two hours to complete and will be carried out free of charge to the customer.
General Motors only sells the diesel variant of the Cruze in India in a total of three variants. ‘Diesel rocket’ as it is fondly called is powered by a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbo engine that produces 166 BHP of power and 380 Nm of torque, paired to a 6-speed manual as well as an automatic transmission. An absolute delight to drive in a straight line, the Cruze is an out and out performance car and is also the most powerful sedan in its class competing against the Skoda Octavia, Hyundai Elantra, Toyota Corolla Altis and the likes. The company has been averaging around 120 units per month with the Cruze in the past six months.
This year has completely been about recalls for GM globally. The company has been facing flak for the ignition switch defect in its home market that caused a major breakdown revealing the automaker’s faulty operations, while it also kick started one of the biggest recall exercises ever in the automotive world. In India too, GM had to go through scrutiny after the infamous Tavera recall, which was followed up by the Sail hatchback and sedan being recalled last year.
