The 2015 Ford Figo continues to share its underpinnings with the Fiesta and will also be available in a compact sedan version with the launch scheduled in the next financial year.
Last month we reported that Ford India has imported three units of the next generation Figo hatchback and sedan and now the company has finally commenced testing the hatchback version in the country. The partially camouflaged 2015 Ford Figo mule was spotted for the first time testing in Pune, Maharashtra, and is slated for launch next year replacing the current generation model. As seen in the spy shot, the India spec version is identical to the Brazilian version, while major changes are expected under the hood.
Based on the existing platform, the new generation Figo is already on sale in Brazil christened as the Ford Ka along with its sedan derivative the Ka+. In terms of styling, the 2015 Figo gets an all-new look complete with the Aston Martin-like grille seen on the bigger models in Ford’s lineup. The car is also expected to pack in more goodies and tech wizardry inside the cabin than before, while retaining the overwhelming driving dynamics seen on the current model.
Coming to the engine options, with ethanol a common fuel in Brazil, the models get new flex-fuel engine options; however, Ford India is more likely to continue using existing lineup of powertrains inclusive of the 1.2-litre petrol and the 1.4-litre diesel engines. Another possibility is that of Ford introducing a non-turbocharged derivative of the 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine producing around 80 BHP of power, offering decent power along with impressive fuel efficiency. Decluttering its engine lineup, the 1.5-litre TDCi motor powering the EcoSport and Fiesta could also be made available on the new Figo, albeit in a lower state of tune for enhanced fuel efficiency.
The same powertrain will also feature on the Figo based compact sedan that will be launched next year as well and was showcased as a concept earlier this year. The 2015 Ford Figo will be manufactured at the American automaker’s new facility in Sanand, Gujarat with production set to commence around April, 2015. Apart from the Figo hatchback and sedan models, Ford India will also launch the new generation Endeavour next year that was unveiled earlier this month.
