Who doesn’t love free petrol? The Ahmedabad police rewarded people with 1-litre of gasoline for following rules and plan to do this on a regular basis.
Road safety in India has become a matter of concern as the past few weeks has shown how unsafe travelling by road is in our country. In a first of its kind initiative, the Ahmedabad police gave people an incentive of free fuel for following traffic rules. This took place in the Ramol area of the city and 58 people were rewarded. The police gave 1-litre of free petrol to these people, all of whom had the necessary document of their vehicle like RC book along with a valid license. Other factors considered were helmets for bikes and seat belts for cars.
The initiative by the Ahmedabad police has received overwhelming response that has prompted the cops to continue this for at least three days in a week, between 8 AM to 8 PM. The Rakhial police station also took a leaf out of this brilliant idea by giving discount coupons of local restaurants to those obeying traffic rules in the city. With Gujarat’s capital city following this, other states in the country could also do something similar to encourage safety and compliance from road uses.
Still when one looks at the bigger picture, does the government need to reward safe driving of individuals, after all being safe itself is the biggest gift for road users. By following traffic rules, drivers of cars and riders of bikes are ensuring their own safety.
