The 2015 Nissan Micra Cup racing car is available in Canada at a price of 19,998 Canadian dollars and will allow customers to participate in Canada’s cheapest racing series to be organised.
Whoever said that car racing was a sport restricted for a wealthy few, wasn’t surely Canadian. While it is a fact that motorsport consumes a lot of wealth, energy and man power, Nissan Canada in collaboration with JD Motorsport Organization seemed to have worked around this obstacle and announced the 2015 Nissan Micra Cup that will be exclusively held in the province of Quebec in the North American country. While stand alone or smaller racing series aren’t uncommon in Canada, the 2014 Nissan Micra Cup makes it special by offering the lowest running cost of any Canadian racing series and features most obviously the peppy little Micra hatchback for the job, the country’s most affordable vehicle.
Coming to the tech specs, the race bred 2015 Nissan Micra Cup gets a host of modifications to make the model race ready. The race spec hatchback draws power from the stock 1.6-litre 4-cylinder, DOHC petrol engine with dual fuel-injection and Twin CVTC (Continuously Variable Timing Control) that has been tuned to produce 109 HP of power. The engine is paired to the stock 5-speed manual transmission. While the powerplant remains stock, Nissan has upgraded the Micra Cup with several modifications including a Nismo S-Tune suspension kit, fire extinguisher, modified exhaust as well as high performance braking pads.
On the inside, a roll cage, FIA-approved racing seat, 5-point harness and driver protection net have been added. The 2015 Micra Cup also gets tow hooks at the front and rear, while the hatchback rides on Fastwheel alloys wrapped in Pirelli low-profile high performance tyres. The Racing series will see around 25 Nissan Micra Cups participate this year that will offer two hours of track time each race weekend, while comprising of a 30 minute trial, 30 minute qualifying and two 30 minute races. If successful, Nissan could also extend the racing series to other parts of the country.
Available only on special order, the 2015 Nissan Micra Cup is available for purchase from JD Motorsports priced at 19,998 Canadian dollars (Rs. 10.89 lakhs) excluding taxes. The cost includes the car and installation of all the aforementionaed performance parts. Even though Nissan India organizes its own set of activities on our soil, we would really appreciate events like these to be more common in the country as they promote motorsports.
