The next generation MINI will be launched in the first half of 2015 in the country with the automaker having commenced promotional activities building up the hype before launch.
Unveiled internationally in November last year, BMW will finally launch the third generation MINI range in the country in the first half of 2015. With the launch a couple of months away, the automaker has commenced promotional activities for the premium hatchback that will give certain individuals the opportunity to drive the 2015 MINI first hand in the country, possibly before the official launch. BMW will continue to get the MINI range as completely built units and will compete against the Mercedes A-Class, BMW 1-Series and most importantly the Fiat 500 Abarth that is scheduled to go on sale next month in the country.
Based on the new UKL platform that also underpins a range of models from MINI and BMW, the third generation MINI has grown taller, wider and longer than the outgoing version. The car retains the retro appeal, but has been spruced up with a more mature styling. The cabin too has grown up with the centre speedometer replaced by a digital infotainment system, with the more practical instrument console showcasing all the vital information. The trademark toggle switches have thankfully been retained on the 2015 lineup.
MINI has confirmed that the company will launch the 2015 3-door Cooper and 5-door Countryman models in the country with the former being available in a convertible body style as well. In terms of powertrain, both the models will use the newly developed 1.5-litre 3-cylinder petrol motor that produces 134 HP and 1.5-litre 3-cylinder diesel that produces 114 HP, paired to 6-speed manual and automatic transmission options. Furthermore, the top-of-the-line Cooper S will get a 4-cylinder petrol unit producing 189 BHP of power. A pure novelty brand for BMW India, prices for the 2015 MINI will continue to be optimistic and is expected to start at Rs. 27 lakhs (ex-showroom).
